The Licking Lady Cats traveled 15 minutes up Highway 63 to take on the Houston Lady Tigers last Monday, December 8. There was no junior varsity game due to the low number of players in the Houston program.
Licking started out strong, using pressure and speed to force multiple turnovers for Houston. The Lady Cats rushed out to a 23-11 lead after one quarter. Lady Cat leading scorer Keely Gorman had to sit much of the second quarter due to foul trouble. Houston was able to hang tough in the second and Licking took an 11-point lead into halftime. The Lady Cats cranked it up in the third quarter and pushed the lead into the upper 20s. All 15 girls played in the fourth quarter as Licking cruised to a 59-40 victory.
“This was a good road win versus a district opponent. We faced some adversity in being without two starters, but the freshmen stepped up. This is very promising moving forward.” ~ Coach Rissler
The Licking Lady Wildcats opened Frisco play on Thursday against the Stoutland Lady Tigers at home. Again there was no junior varsity game.
Licking had another quick start and used that momentum to lead the entire game. The Lady Cats used a 2-3 zone and a 1-3-1 zone to keep the Lady Tigers off balance all night. All 14 girls played as the Lady Cats claimed a 68-48 home victory and opened the conference season at 1-0.
“We have put two nice performances together this week. The girls are starting to understand the offense better and they are giving full effort on the defensive end. I hope we can carry this over to next week with two big games against Richland and Crocker.” ~ Coach Rissler
