Community joins together to give thanks

Two community meals were held in Licking on Thanksgiving Day, making sure everyone had the opportunity to share in the holiday.
Erik and Christy Dattwiler were joined by many volunteers across local churches to host a community dinner at Licking Assembly of God, which began at noon.
In addition to serving those who enjoyed the holiday feast at the church, organizers worked with the Licking Senior Center and churches to identify individuals who were homebound. Between sixty and seventy meals were delivered to them and to any open businesses in town, making sure everyone had the opportunity to share in the Thanksgiving meal.
Volunteers prepared 16 turkeys, 10 hams and 100 pounds of mashed potatoes, along with all the traditional sides for the meal. A total of 230 meals were served. All were welcomed at the door and graciously invited inside.
The Church Underground also hosted a meal on the evening of Thanksgiving to which all were invited, serving ham and turkey with all the fixings.
The community is blessed to have volunteers who make these community meals possible. The gatherings offer an opportunity for fellowship as people unite to enjoy the meal and the day. This fellowship can be a light in the darkness for those who are fighting loneliness and loss, which can feel overwhelming during the holidays. Others may be facing financial hardships that make it difficult to afford the traditional Thanksgiving meal, and are grateful for the opportunity to share in the feast.
Another opportunity to attend a community dinner is upcoming. The Licking Christian Church will host a Christmas Day community meal and all are invited.
