Old Mill Day at Montauk State Park

Old time games were part of the fun at this year’s Old Mill Day at Montauk State Park. Players tossed a ring and caught it using two sticks.

Old Mill Day was held at Montauk State Park Saturday. There was something for everyone, with vendors exhibiting their craft and selling their handiwork, old time games, food trucks, exhibits and more.

At the pavilion you could find information on the history of the park, including the CCC Camp which was located there. The Missouri Department of Conservation and National Park Service had booths with pamphlets and booklets offering information on the Missouri outdoors.

Exhibitors shared information about the grinding of corn and wheat, and visitors were allowed to try their hand at grinding. Rope making was another hands-on activity.

A blacksmith was demonstrating his craft, heating iron in his forge, then shaping the red hot metal into the shape he desired. Metal and wood artists, painters and textile artists also shared their work. Many other vendors were also on hand, offering their handmade or homegrown products.

An archery area was available with instruction provided, and old time games were led on the grass.

All in all, it was a beautiful day to be outside and visitors enjoyed the day at the state park.
