Obituary – Marvin L. Umfleet
Marvin Lee Umfleet, born September 17, 1937, passed peacefully in his sleep on September 5, 2024, after a long illness.
Though his illness was both humbling and difficult, he never reached the stage where he did not know and recognize family.
After 54 years of marriage, true companionship, many travels and a long peaceful retirement in Licking, Missouri, Marvin is survived by his loving wife Shirley Ann Umfleet nee Van Deusen; sons, Gregory Seibert, of Mascoutah, Illinois, and Timothy (Gina) Umfleet of Licking, Missouri; daughters of 54 years, Jana (James) Harper and Beth Astoff of New Melle, Missouri. There are many talented, shining, fine individuals who are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Each one of them is included in our family thoughts and prayers at this time. Our hearts and prayers also surround his wife Shirley and all of his adult children.
Marvin attended high school in Sikeston, Missouri, where he excelled in every area and lettered in every category and sport available. He attended two years of seminary college before settling into a career as a buyer of 38 years with Defense Contractor McDonnell Douglas. During his long and successful time with Mac, Marvin was entrusted with work in confidential programs. The last ten years of his career included a change of residence from Missouri to Florida for detailed work at Cape Canaveral NASA, where he worked on both the Mercury and Gemini Programs. His name is recorded at Cape Canaveral on the boulder to mark his dedicated efforts.
Throughout their lifetime together; Marvin and Shirley enjoyed many trips and adventures, from walking the Holy Land, standing on the pillars of the ruins of Greece, to moments on the beaches of Brazil, Hawaii, the Eastern Seaboard, and too many Florida beach moments to put numbers on.
He will be long remembered by many.

A visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, at Abounding Hope Church, 112 State Hwy 32, Licking, Mo. Interment followed the funeral service at Boone Creek Cemetery, with a luncheon afterward at Abounding Hope Baptist Church.
