Obituary – Bernice “B.L.” Mace

Bernice Lewis Mace, better known as B.L. or Bologna, was born January 27, 1942. He was one of eleven children born to Marvin Edward and Alma Magdalynn (Melton) Mace.

B.L. lived his whole life in Edgar Springs and loved it there. He was united in marriage to Cletis Louise Hunt on July 29, 1961. B.L. and Louise shared 46 years together before her passing on September 5, 2007.

They were blessed with one daughter and two sons, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

B.L. was a very outgoing man. He never met a stranger. He was known around town by the color of his truck. He liked to spend time outdoors either hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, or just sitting out in the yard. He especially loved going down to the Mace family farm. Most important to him was his family and making memories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

B.L. is preceded in death by his father and mother; spouse, Louise; grandson, Lee Marvin; two great grandchildren, Maycie Dove and Gunner Lee; two sisters, Zelma Borders and Winnie Hopkins; and four brothers, Frank Mace, Marvin Ed Mace, Lonnie (Butch) Mace and Dannie Mace. He is survived by his three children, Anita (Bobby) Harris, Randy Mace and Bernie (Sherry) Mace; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service was held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home with George Robbins officiating. A visitation was held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Interment followed at Smith Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joshua Harris, Johnny Lindsey, KC Freeman, Burnice Mace II, Jamie Blake and JD Sherman. Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.foxfh.net.
