B&M RODEO

B&M Rodeo and Ranch Rodeo will be held at the Licking Rodeo Arena on October 11. Barrels and poles begin at noon, with mutton bustin, calf riding, steer riding and ranch rodeo to follow. Call in by October 6, 6 p.m., 417-217-2057.

FALL BAKE SALE

A Fall Bake Sale, hosted by Licking Residential Care, will be held at Town & Country Supermarket beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 17. All proceeds benefit the Resident Activity Fund.

WALKING TACO BENEFIT DINNER

SCCC is holding a benefit Walking Taco Dinner at 5 p.m. on October 17, at Fox Fire House. A walking taco dinner, raffle items, 50/50 raffle and a cake walk will be held. All proceeds go to Texas County Shop With a Hero.

MEET & GREET FREE BREAKFAST

A Meet & Greet will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, at Fox Fire Station, with the Licking Volunteer Fire Department, Licking Police Department, Licking City Council and LVFD Rural Board present. Enjoy a free breakfast while meeting your area civil servants and first responders.

TEXAS CO. LIBRARY DEDICATION & OPEN HOUSE

The new Texas County Library in downtown Houston is set for dedication and an open house on Saturday, October 18. A program is set for 1 p.m. Tours will continue until 3 p.m. The first day of operation for the library is Monday, October 20.

HAUNTING AT THE MILL – MONTAUK

This no-so-scary family-friendly evening of history, mystery and local legends begins with games, crafts and other activities at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, at Montauk State Park. Haunted tours of the Mill’s exterior start at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.

MONTAUK BAPTIST CHURCH REUNION

Montauk Baptist Church will celebrate their 60th anniversary (though the church can trace its roots back to 1864 through the two churches who merged to form it) on Sunday, October 19. Morning services are 10 a.m. – noon, followed by a dinner. At 2 p.m., former pastors will be recognized. All are welcome.

SHROUD OF TURIN DISPLAY

A public display of a full-size replica of The Shroud of Turin will be hosted by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Licking beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 19. It may be viewed until 3 p.m. that day or on Tuesday, October 21, from 2 to 6 p.m. Allow 20 to 30 minutes to view the display. All are welcome who are interested in learning more about the shroud, which has many indications of being the burial cloth of Jesus.

ROSEBERRY CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING

The Roseberry Perpetual Care Cemetery Association will meet Sunday, October 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the cemetery, 32000 County Road 6310, between Licking and Edgar Springs. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

K OF C FISH FRY

The Knights of Columbus will host a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 24. The fish fry will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 222 State Hwy 32, Licking.

LIGHT THE NIGHT AND HAUNTED MILL

The Light the Night Festival and the Haunted Mill will be held in Licking on Friday, October 31.

CHRISTMAS IN OUR HOMETOWN

The Christmas in Our Hometown program will begin accepting applications on October 27-November 14. Applications may be submitted at Right Away Rent-To-Own and Payday Loan or at the Licking United Community Help Center. Those interested in adopting a family at Christmas or donating to the program should contact Kassi Ramsey at Right Away Rent-To-Own.

CANCER BENEFIT

A Cancer Benefit will be held for Jack Daniels at 4 p.m. on November 8, at Fox Fire Station in Licking. A chili supper, raffle and auction will take place, with proceeds going directly to Jack and Sue to help with financial support as he goes through cancer treatments. Raffle tickets may be purchased ahead of the event at Corner Express convenience stores.

GUN AND QUILT RAFFLE

The Fleet Reserve Association FRA Branch 364 is holding a Gun and Quilt Raffle. The raffles are in support of college scholarships. For more information call David Herndon at 417-967-0661.

TEXAS COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART & HISTORY

The Texas County Museum of Art & History and the Book Nook is open for the season. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE

It’s always a book sale at the Book Nook, open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays, at the Texas County Museum of Art & History. Come in and support your local Friends of the Library and take home a bargain of books.

RECOVERY UNDERGROUND

AOG LEGACY SERVICE

The Licking Assembly of God invites all to attend their weekly Legacy Service, held from 1 – 2 p.m. every Wednesday. This non-denominational service was begun to provide an option for those who wish to attend a mid-week service held during daylight hours.

Lynch Township’s meetings are the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Lynch Township Shed, 14472 Boiling Springs Road.

SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
