Lady ’Cats gaining confidence

The Licking Lady Wildcats Volleyball team dropped two matches last week on the road to Mountain Grove and Houston, but showed progress, taking the Mountain Grove match to five sets and taking the final set to the wire, 22-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-21, 14-16. The Houston match went four sets, 17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 18-25.

The young team remained positive and did well over the weekend at the Dig for Life Challenge in Cape Girardeau. They tied with Malden (18-25 and 25-17), defeated Zalma (25-16, 25-4), Senath-Hornersville (25-10, 25-14), and West County (25-20, 25-10), and suffered their only loss of the day to Oak Ridge (19-25, 23-25).

“We’ve had lots of growing pains these past few weeks, but are slowly getting things worked out, and hopefully they are gaining some confidence along the way. I’m really proud of the kids…sometimes when things don’t go your way, negativity rears its ugly head, but these girls have remained positive and are up for the challenges ahead. We are young and with inexperience comes an array of challenges, but like I told them, that’s an excuse and we can’t use that as a crutch; we have to figure it out.
