LHS junior Jadyn Barnes makes it to the top of the podium in Javelin Throw at the State competition

Jadyn Barnes, a junior at Licking High School, traveled to Jefferson City to compete in Javelin Throw at the Class 3 State finals on Saturday. This was her third consecutive year trying for Gold. This year she was not disappointed and brought home the GOLD!

Barnes’ throw of 37.84m earned her the title of Class 3 State Champion Javelin Thrower. Barnes ascended to the high podium to accept the gold medal.

With another year remaining in her high school career, this year’s gold may not mark the apex. She plans to defend her title next season and hopes to throw even further then.

“Winning State was such a surreal experience for me,” said Barnes. “It had always been a dream of mine to stand at the top of the pyramid. After realizing that my last throw finally got me to where I have always wanted to be, I was experiencing so many emotions, between excitement and tears of joy.”

It is definitely going to be a feeling that I will never forget and one that I hope to keep chasing during my final track season next year,” she added.

Three years ago when Jadyn started Javelin I knew she would be special,” said Coach Steve Rissler. “She has an elite mix of strength and agility. In three years she went from rookie to state champ.”

She has now cemented herself as the best javelin athlete in Class 3 and I’m very proud of her,” he stated.
