Wildcats defeat Cuba, lose on the road

LICKING 76, CUBA 64
LICKING, Mo. – On Monday, February 10, the Wildcats hosted the Cuba Wildcats at the Sherman Hill Fieldhouse. In the varsity game, the Licking ’Cats built a 6-point first quarter lead. Cuba responded in the second quarter and got back to within one point. The high scoring third quarter saw the score stay close, 53-52 Licking. But in the fourth quarter the hometown ’Cats turned on the defense and hit 7 of 10 from the free throw line to secure the 12-point victory, 76-64.
Roston Stockard had a big night, finishing with 33 points, hitting six 3’s and going 9 of 11 with free throws. Benton Corley added 12 points.
The JV also came away with a win against the Cuba Wildcats, 39-32. It was a low scoring game with a big first quarter. The Licking Wildcats never trailed in the game, and their great defense in the first half held Cuba to only 10 points.
Leading in scoring was Jason Ingram with 18.

WILLOW SPRINGS 48, LICKING 45
WILLOW SPRINGS, Mo. – In Thursday’s varsity game on the road against the Willow Springs Bears, a low scoring defensive game was played. The Wildcats struggled to hit shots early but found success in the paint in the second and third quarters. In the fourth quarter the ’Cats were able to grab the lead at 38-37 with a couple of great defensive possessions. However, that was not enough as Willow Springs was able to hit a big 3 and several free throws to take the lead back and hold off the ’Cats 48-45.
Jordan Ritz led the team with 12 points; Karson Walker and Roston Stockard each added 9 points.
In Thursday’s JV game, the JV ’Cats traveled to Willow Springs to play the Bears and beat them 45-35. The game was close until the fourth quarter when the defense stepped up and forced key turnovers that led to the Wildcats taking control and stretching the lead to 10 for the win.
Conway Adey had 15 to lead the team.
