Two Bears’ teams fall to the Wildcats

LICKING 71, AVA 65

LICKING, Mo. – The Ava Bears came to Licking on Tuesday, January 21. In the varsity contest the game was a back-and-forth, double overtime thriller, with the Wildcats taking the lead in the second overtime and never giving Ava another chance. The final was 71-65.

Leading the team with 21 points was Roston Stockard; Carter Sullins added 14 points and Benton Corley had 13. The team was 24 of 28 from the free throw line for the game, and 16 of 18 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

In the JV game the young Wildcats took an early lead that they never gave back. An early burst of offense produced five three-pointers in the first half. Defense held Ava to 12 points in the first half and only 16 points in the second half.

Jett Sullins had 13 points to lead the way, and Parker Huff added 10 in the 39-28 win.

LICKING 82, RICHLAND 38

LICKING, Mo. – A packed house watched the Homecoming game on Friday, January 24. In the varsity game, the Wildcats came out shooting, hitting 13 threes, leading to a 55-point first half. In the third quarter the team kept their foot on the gas pedal and scored 24 points in the quarter, only giving up 10 to the Bears. The final was 82-38.

Roston Stockard led the way with 24 points and hit 7 threes, Benton Corley had 18, Carter Sullins added 16 and Karson Walker 11.

The JV started the night by beating the Richland JV Bears 52-20. The JV ’Cats focused on playing really great defense, holding them to 13 first half points, then held them to a single point in the third quarter. In the third quarter the Wildcats used their defense to create some easy offense, stretching the lead to 24 points, and they never looked back.

Parker Huff had 11 points and Conway Adey added 8 points.
