Wildcats win two after first round loss at Frisco

LICKING 60, PLATO 62
LAQUEY, Mo. – The Wildcats played Plato on Tuesday in the opening round of the Frisco League Tournament. The Wildcats came out playing well, leading 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Wildcats had trouble scoring the ball, trailing by nine going into halftime. The Wildcats matched the Eagles in the third quarter to trail 39-32 going into the fourth. In the final period, the Wildcats gave a great effort, fighting back to cut the deficit to one with under one minute to play. The Wildcats outscored the Eagles 28-23 in the fourth quarter but fell short, 62-60.
Nate Gambill scored 17, Carter Sullins had 12 points, Roston Stockard 9, Kannon Buckner and Karson Walker 5, and Lake Wade, Jordan Ritz, and Kale Cook 4 each.
LICKING 79, NEWBURG 40
LAQUEY, Mo. – On Friday the Wildcats played the Newburg Wolves. The Wildcats came out strong, outscoring the Wolves 28-11 in the first quarter. The Wildcats kept the pace in the second quarter and took a 45-21 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, the Wildcats continued to control the game on the defensive end, outscoring the Wolves 28-8 to take a 73-29 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final minutes, the Wildcats scored six more to earn the victory, 79-40.
Gambill scored 19 points, Ritz 16, Stockard 15, Cook 9, Buckner 7, Sullins and Walker 4, Benton Corley 3, and Kohen Blankenship 2.
LICKING 85, LAQUEY 64
LAQUEY, Mo. – On Saturday the Wildcats played the Laquey Hornets for the Consolation title. The Wildcats led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter in a back-and-forth game. The Wildcats outscored the Hornets 23-14 in the second quarter to take a 39-28 lead into halftime. Licking also won the third quarter, 24-20, taking a 63-48 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Wildcats outscore the Hornets 22-16 to get an 85-64 win.
Stockard had 21 points, Ritz had 18, Corley and Sullins had 10, Gambill and Walker 8, Buckner and Cook 4, and Titus Scavone 2.
