The Licking Lady Wildcats start their 2025 volleyball season on Tuesday, August 26, at the Willard Jamboree. Coach Tammy Gorman remains at the helm, and with three returning seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and nine freshmen on the roster, she’ll have a young team this year. Coach Gorman anticipates four to five of her freshmen will contribute on the varsity squad.
Though the team may be young and lack experience, their coach describes them as eager to learn and she is excited for the season. Anticipate that the team will take some early hits, but expect them to improve throughout the season. Lots of players are pushing for a position on varsity and Coach Gorman believes she’ll see good contributions from sophomores and freshmen.
The coaches have set standards and expectations, and the players are striving to meet those expectations. The seniors are stepping into a void left with the departure of a dominating group of last year’s seniors. Coach Gorman is pleased with their leadership by example, and said they are growing into kind, loving leaders.
Four players return with significant varsity experience – Jadyn Barnes, senior; Hadlee Davis, sophomore; Kate Mitchell, senior; and Kylee Rinne, junior.
Senior Jadyn Barnes is powerful, with good ball control. She reads defenses well and you can expect to see good output from her both offensively and defensively.
Sophomore Hadlee Davis is athletic and has a good IQ for the game, which Coach Gorman attributes to her role running the offense on the basketball floor. She’ll help run the offense on the volleyball court as well, and look for her to be really good at right back as a defensive player and setting for offense.
Senior Kate Mitchell is expected to control the middle. She is also anticipated to be an offensive threat. Coach Gorman expects more consistency out of Mitchell this year.
Junior Kylee Rinne is the floor general on serve receive and defense. Expect her to control the back line on defense.
Senior Addison Floyd is expected to control the tempo of the game as setter. She has a good serve and is learning her hitters.
Coach Gorman believes Lady Wildcat fans will be excited to watch the team grow through the 2025 season, and see what this young group of Lady Wildcats will contribute.
Mark your calendars now for their first home game against Winona on Thursday, September 4, with JV action beginning at 5 p.m.
