Lady ’Cats compete in St. James Tournament

LICKING 49, SOUTHERN BOONE 43

ST. JAMES, Mo. – Licking faced off with the fifth seed, Southern Boone, in the first round of the St. James Tournament. The Lady Wildcats had been off for three weeks and the rust showed up early.

Licking trailed the entire game but did enough to keep the Lady Eagles within striking distance. Licking trailed 16-12 after one and 28 to 20 at the half. The Lady Wildcats won the third quarter 14 to 12, to cut the lead to six heading into the fourth. The Licking defense came alive in the fourth and only surrendered three points while the offense scored 15 to take the contest by the score of 49 to 43.

Scoring for the Lady Wildcats were: Hadlee Davis 12, Allie Hock 11, Kinley Keaton 9, Keely Gorman 6, Zoey Dawson 5, Linzie Wallace 4 and Morgan Stone 2.

ST. JAMES 51, LICKING 25

In the semifinal round, the Lady ’Cats ran into the eventual tournament champion in St. James.

The Lady Tigers used full court and half court pressure to make life miserable for the LHS ball handlers. Licking was not able to adjust to the physical and aggressive style of play in the first half and trailed 27-7 at halftime. The second half was basically even but Licking could never cut into the lead and lost 25-51.

Scoring for Licking were: Hadlee Davis 10, Allie Hock 7, Morgan Stone 5, Keely Gorman 3, Zoey Dawson 2 and Linzie Wallace 1.

FATIMA 61, LICKING 49

Licking faced the second-seeded Fatima Lady Comets in the third place game on Saturday. Fatima was upset by Norwood in the semi-finals.

Hock scored six in the first quarter and the Lady ’Cats led 12-10 after one. Fatima rallied in the second to take a slight 21-19 lead into halftime. Both offenses came alive in the third as Licking scored 18, but Fatima scored 23, extending the lead to seven. Licking battled in the fourth but Fatima made five of six free throws late to secure the third place trophy by the score of 61-49.

Licking scorers were: Hadlee Davis 19, Allie Hock 15, Linzie Wallace 5, Kylee Rinne 3, Zoey Dawson 3, Kinley Keaton 2, and Morgan Stone 2.

Allie Hock and Keely Gorman were voted to the All Tournament Team by the coaches.
