LICKING 61, HOUSTON 23
LICKING, Mo. – Licking faced a familiar face in their home opener last Monday in the Houston Lady Tigers.
Licking dominated from the beginning to the end of this one. Allie Hock opened the scoring for Licking off a lob from Linzie Wallace and that opened the flood gates. Licking poured in 25 first quarter points (most of the season) and held the Lady Tigers to just 3. Hock continued to score as she poured in 20 of her 22 points in the first half en route to a 61 to 23 victory.
Zoey Dawson tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, to go with 2 assists and 2 steals. Wallace racked up 10 assists to go with 5 points. Kinley Keaton scored 10 and had 3 assists. Hadlee Davis scored 9 and racked up 6 rebounds. Morgan Stone had 2 points, Mylie Peterson 2 points, Keely Gorman 1 point.
“This game is always tough because it falls on the Monday after the Frisco Tournament and we take that Sunday off. The girls showed up ready to roll and left no doubt in this one.” ~ Coach Rissler
LICKING 45, ALTON 43
ALTON, Mo. – Licking made the long trip to Alton to face the gigantic Lady Comets on Thursday. Alton featured two post players taller than 6’1″.
The Lady ’Cats started decently, taking a slim lead in the first quarter, but the Comets pounded the ball inside to take control of the game. The Lady ’Cats used some junk defense to confuse the Comets for a spell in the second quarter. This allowed them to cut into the lead and stay within striking distance at halftime. The game remained close until the mid fourth quarter, when a corner 3 by Keaton gave LHS their first lead since the first quarter. Licking built the lead to 5 and milked the clock to escape Alton with a 45-43 hard fought victory.
Scoring was Hock 17, Davis 12, Gorman 6, Keaton 5, Wallace 3, Dawson 2.
“This was a great road win for the girls. They battled all night with Alton’s size and eventually got a lead and ran the clock.” ~ Coach Rissler
