Lady ’Cats come back from 17 down

The Licking Lady Wildcats opened the 2024-25 season versus an uncommon but solid Fredericktown squad last Saturday at the Bunker Shootout.

Licking started extremely slow as shots didn’t fall and mistakes mounted. The Lady Blackcats would hit five 3s in the first quarter to lead 22-5 heading into the second.

Keely Gorman sparked a run as she hit back-to-back 3s to jumpstart the offense. A 3 at the halftime buzzer by Allie Hock cut the Blackcat lead to 9 at the break.

The third quarter was all Licking as the girls used pressure and grit to erase the early lead. Licking took the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter on an alley-oop to Hock. As the shots started to fall, the defense also raised and Licking pushed the lead to 10 before some late 3s set the final score at 54 to 48, in favor of the Lady Wildcats.

Hock led the way, scoring 25 points. Hadlee Davis added 9, Gorman 8, Linzie Wallace 6, Kinley Keaton 3, Zoey Dawson 2 and Morgan Stone 1.
