September 11 remembered at Licking Elementary

Licking Elementary instructor Candice Shepherd brought Jeff Kinder in last week to talk to her fourth grade students about September 11, 2001. Kinder was a member of the Missouri Highway Patrol at the time of the attack, and provided the students with both a history of what happened and his perspective on it.

The event left such an indelible mark on our country, our lives, and in most of our memories. There are generations of young people in our country today, however, who do not have that image of billowing black smoke and falling towers seared into their minds, as they either weren’t born yet or were too young to understand.

The efforts of Shepherd, Kinder, and other educators at schools across our country are an attempt to share with the younger generations not only what happened, but how it changed our world.
