Licking students joined in passing the Peace Torch

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run came to Licking Elementary School on Wednesday, May 15.

The Peace Run is an international torch relay. A team left New York City in April, beginning a 10,000-mile route. Their four-month journey will take them across the U.S. and Canada to share the message that peace begins with the individual.

Some of the Licking elementary students joined with runners from Australia, Germany, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand and the United States, as they entered the FEMA building on the Licking School campus.

The Peace runners then shared a program on kindness, self-esteem and the oneness of humanity. Students learned a new song, saw skits, and participated in a game of “Name that Country” with the runners giving clues as to where they were from. They also had the opportunity to hold or touch the peace torch, which others have carried worldwide, as runners have passed the torch hand to hand and heart to heart since 1987.

The Peace Run was inspired by visionary Sri Chinmoy to give citizens a dynamic way to express their own hopes and dreams for a more harmonious world. For more information see: peacerun.org.
