LICKING, Mo. – For the second consecutive week, weather interfered with the schedule and the Licking Wildcats were only able to play a couple of games. Game summaries are below:
LICKING 5, WAYNESVILLE 0
SALEM, Mo. – The Licking Wildcats opened play in the Salem Tournament on Friday with a 5-0 win over the Waynesville Tigers.
Licking scored early with a pair of runs in the first and second innings. The early runs were more than enough for Licking starter Silas Antle.
The senior righthander shut out Waynesville on just two hits over seven innings. He struck out 12 and walked five.
Kellar Davis led the offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Kale Cook knocked in a pair of runs and blasted a solo home run in the top of the seventh, and Austin Stephens tripled in a run.
LICKING 9, SULLIVAN 1
SALEM, Mo. – Licking defeated Sullivan 9-1 on Friday night in the Salem Tournament to advance to the championship game.
Keyton Cook went the distance on the mound for Licking. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out 12 while walking just two.
Rusty Buckner finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Licking offense. Austin Stephens also collected a pair of hits and Karson Walker chipped in with two runs-batted-in while Kannon Buckner scored two runs.
The victory lifted Licking to 20-3 for the spring and into the championship game versus Pacific. Rain washed out the title tilt in the top of the second inning. With only one week left in the regular season, it remains to be seen if the game will be rescheduled.
