Those participating in the second annual SCCC Suicide Prevention Walk gathered in front of the facility Wednesday before the walk.
The second annual Suicide Prevention Walk was held Wednesday, September 23, around the perimeter fence of South Central Correctional Center (SCCC). SCCC staff, members of local law enforcement, and members of the community gathered to show their dedication to preventing suicide and walked the one mile trek, which contained educational information about suicides along the way.
Joe Satterfield coordinated the event, and described mental health as being like seasons, with ups and downs, and storms along the way.
City of Licking Mayor also addressed those gathered, sharing a personal anecdote about a high school friend whose life was lost due to suicide.
Robyn Dinkins, Chief of Mental Health at SCCC, shared protective factors that may decrease the likelihood that a person will attempt suicide.
