Licking Threepeats as Frisco League Tournament Champs

The Licking Wildcats brought home some hardware last week, as the #1 seeded Wildcats won two games to win the tournament and another conference tournament plaque.

Thursday, September 10, saw Licking square off against the #5 seeded Richland Bears. Trent Wood took the mound for the Wildcats and faced the minimum as he threw a no hitter, striking out 11 in the process. With that kind of dominance on the mound, the Wildcats quickly settled into a groove offensively, plating ten runs in five innings on their way to the mercy rule. Jett Sullins smashed two doubles, and Conway Adey, Jason Ingram, Colin Kuhn and Trent Wood had a double each in the contest. Logan Buckner drove in four runs on three hits. Final score: Licking 10, Richland 0.

Friday night saw Licking match up with #2 seeded Iberia. Isaac Running Horse got the start for the Wildcats, surrendering a run in the first, but not surrendering a hit in his three innings of work. He struck out seven and walked six. Conway Adey came on in relief, working two clean innings with the help of an outfield assist from Jett Sullins as he threw a run out at the plate. The offense was firing again, aided by two triples from Conway Adey and one from Jett Sullins. Easton Stoops picked up an RBI, along with Trent Wood. Costly defensive mistakes helped the Wildcats along, and the final two runs to ensure the mercy rule came on wild pitches. Brayden Moberly scored the final run of the contest, as he courtesy ran for Jason Ingram. The Wildcats plated 11 runs in five innings to draw the contest to a close early, with a final score of 11-1.

The win gave Licking their third consecutive championship in the conference tournament, and was their sixth in the last eight years.

The Wildcats travel to Iberia on Thursday, September 17, for a 5 p.m. game. The next action will be in Licking with a home game at 5 p.m. against Seymour on Friday, September 18.
